Step 3

R = Clockwise turn of right corner

R' = Counter-clockwise turn of right corner

In this step to solving the Pyraminx you will be solving as many of edge pieces as you can. When you get done with this step, your pyramid should look something like the next diagram. You should be able to solve all but 2 or 3 pieces using these moves. Who knows, maybe you'll get lucky and solve the whole thing before step 4!!

To do this, you will be doing 3 piece swaps. These sequences of 4 moves will move the pieces around as shown. You may need to orient your pyramid until you get it in the correct orientation to do one of these moves. Make sure you pay attention to which color is facing which direction. Both of these moves move the same piece to the same spot, but it's twisted different ways at the end of each move.

Here's how I like to think of these moves: The first turn puts a piece in the correct spot. The second turn moves it out of the way, and replaces it with a messed up piece. The third turn takes this messed up piece out of its spot, and the fourth turn replaces the fixed piece back in its place.

Just keep doing these moves until only 2 or 3 pieces remain. You will need to move your pyramid around to get it in the proper orientation. This is the most difficult step because you have to think about what goes where. Take it one step at a time. You'll quickly get the hang of it and won't even be looking at the diagrams after a few moves.

Almost done! Go to Step 4 next.
